MARY CHOU
Mary Chou is the founder and Principal Architect of OVERHAUL architecture. She is licensed to practice architecture in the state of California. Prior to starting her own practice in 2007, Mary worked as Project Designer and Architect in the residential design divisions of Southern California’s premiere design offices, including Schmidt Architects, Ehrlich Architects, and Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects.
Mary's passion for uncovering hidden potential in older, forgotten homes led to the establishment of OVERHAUL architecture which prides itself in specializing in the retrofitting, modernization, expansion, and “upcycling” of existing homes. There is no greener design project than making use of resources we already have.
Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. At Berkeley, she graduated with High Honors and was awarded the Undergraduate Thesis Prize. At Harvard, she graduated with the Dean’s Letter of Commendation. In recent years, Mary has taught undergraduate design studios at the University of Southern California, Otis College of Art, and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
